In a recent legal development within the K-pop industry, Attrakt, the agency representing the popular girl group Fifty Fifty, has filed a compensation claim amounting to 1 billion won ($736,000) against its subcontractor, The Givers, along with The Givers' head, Siahn, and senior director, Baek Jin-sil, as disclosed by Attrakt on Wednesday.
The claim centers on allegations of breach of business service contract obligations by Siahn and Baek Jin-sil, who not only co-wrote and produced Fifty Fifty's hit track "Cupid" but were also signatories to a project management contract with Attrakt, focused on producing girl groups and music over a five-year period, starting from June 2021.
Attrakt contends that Siahn and Baek Jin-sil's actions have not only violated their contract but have also obstructed Attrakt's business operations, resulting in asset damage through deception.
The legal dispute follows Fifty Fifty's application for an injunction to suspend the effectiveness of their exclusive contract with Attrakt, filed in June. Despite the group's efforts, the Seoul Central District Court rejected the injunction request in August, putting them on hiatus.
Attrakt firmly believes that The Givers' involvement influenced Fifty Fifty's decision to terminate their exclusive contract, seeking compensation for the significant loss of major business opportunities, such as advertisements and sponsors, arising from Siahn and Baek Jin-sil's alleged breach of duty and embezzlement. The agency also asserts that these breaches, coupled with financial defaults and illegal activities, led to direct conflicts between the company and Fifty Fifty, impeding normal business activities. As the legal process unfolds, Attrakt plans to escalate the damages claimed.
Simultaneously, despite the ongoing legal battle, Attrakt is preparing to introduce a new girl group, slated for a potential debut in the first half of the upcoming year, showcasing their resilience and commitment to advancing in the K-pop industry.
