After a hiatus prompted by privacy controversies in 2021, former NCT member Lucas has resurfaced on social media platforms, signaling a potential comeback to the entertainment industry. Lucas recently opened official accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, displaying an SM affiliate mark, reaffirming his association with SM Entertainment. Both accounts have garnered over 230,000 and 750,000 followers on X and Instagram, respectively, as of Sunday.
Hints of a possible solo debut have emerged on Lucas's personal Instagram account, where he uploaded a new profile picture.
Lucas took a pause from his career in August 2021 following a series of privacy-related disclosures. The controversies unfolded when an individual claiming to be Lucas's ex-girlfriend revealed private messages, accusing him of gaslighting and financial exploitation. Subsequently, four more individuals came forward with accusations of infidelity and extravagant demands during their relationships.
Responding to the mounting pressure, Lucas publicly acknowledged the allegations and issued a handwritten apology letter in Chinese on his social media two days after the initial disclosure. Despite the apology, further revelations surfaced, leading to Lucas's departure from NCT and WayV in May 2023. In his departure statement, Lucas expressed his intention to pursue individual endeavors, leaving room for a potential solo debut.
This development occurs against the backdrop of other SM Entertainment artists facing privacy-related controversies, highlighting ongoing challenges within the industry concerning personal privacy issues. Notably, allegations of infidelity emerged against EXO member Chanyeol in October 2020, while Seunghan, a former member of SM's boy group RIIZE, temporarily halted activities due to controversies surrounding his personal life shortly after his debut.
