KBS's renowned comedy TV show, "Gag Concert," is making a comeback after a hiatus of over three years. The first season, which began in September 1999 and concluded in June 2020 after 1,050 episodes, enjoyed widespread popularity, surpassing competitors like "Comedy Big League" and "Saturday Night Live Korea."
The second season of "Gag Concert" is expected to focus on "less violent content" to ensure a family-friendly viewing experience. Head director Kim Sang-mi emphasized the aim of providing content that can be enjoyed by both parents and children, contributing to reducing the generational gap in Korean society.
Three new acts will be introduced in the second season: "Golden Kindergarten," centered around preschoolers due to the country's low birth rate; "Screening Humanity with Nitung," portraying conflicts between a Filipino daughter-in-law and her Korean mother-in-law; and "What Do You Think About Girls Like Defconn," a satirical take on South Korea's blind date culture.
"Screening Humanity with Nitung" features comedians Kim Ji-young and Park Hyeong-min, known for their YouTube channel "FokCine," specializing in short-form entertaining clips.
Kim Won-hyo, a veteran since joining the program in 2005, expressed appreciation for the reboot, stating gratitude for KBS's decision to revive "Gag Concert." The first episode of the second season, marking the show's 1,051st episode, is scheduled to air on KBS 2TV at 10:25 p.m. on Sunday.
