After 18 years of running a successful Luxembourg restaurant in Berlin's Charlottenburg district, artist Luc Wolff has returned to his primary passion of painting following the closure of his establishment in January. The 71-year-old Luxembourg native, who has worked as a freelance artist in Berlin since 1988, made the decision to close Restaurant De Maufel primarily due to the departure of his head chef.
"Now I am exclusively active in my main profession again," Wolff explained, referring to his artistic career that spans several decades. The restaurant, which he operated with his wife, had become a notable fixture in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf area, serving authentic Luxembourg cuisine to Berlin diners for nearly two decades.
Wolff is particularly known for his large-format paper works that resemble wallpaper, a distinctive specialty that has defined much of his artistic output. These unique pieces demonstrate his ability to blur the lines between fine art and decorative design, creating works that can transform entire wall spaces with their scale and intricate patterns.
The transition from restaurateur back to full-time artist represents a return to Wolff's roots, as he had established himself in Berlin's art scene long before entering the gastronomy business. His dual career path of combining artistic pursuits with restaurant management was an unusual but successful endeavor that allowed him to maintain creative expression while building a business in Berlin's competitive dining landscape.
