An architectural event emphasizing the political nature of urban design has launched in Oloron, France, featuring exhibitions and interactive programs at the media library courtyard since Thursday. The "Architecture in Movement Gatherings" seeks to engage the broader community in conversations about urban planning and architectural decision-making.
The three-day event, which runs through Saturday evening, was initiated by the Order of Architects of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and offers various activities centered around architecture and urban development. Organizers have positioned the gathering as more than just a temporary event, aiming to establish ongoing dialogue about urbanism in society long after the festivities conclude.
Julien Chavepayre, an architect and member of the collective Encore who serves as the event's artistic director, emphasized the democratic nature of their mission. "Our goal is to break down the elitist and static image of architecture and show that it concerns everyone," Chavepayre stated, highlighting the organizers' commitment to making architectural discourse accessible to all community members.
The event launched on Thursday, October 9th, transforming the media library's public space into an interactive venue where visitors can engage with architectural concepts through exhibitions and speaking presentations. The initiative represents a broader movement to democratize architectural education and encourage public participation in urban planning decisions that affect daily life.
By positioning architecture as inherently political, the organizers aim to foster critical thinking about how built environments shape communities and reflect societal values. The gathering concludes Saturday evening, but its impact on local urban planning discussions is expected to continue beyond the event's timeframe.
