BTS member Suga, also known by his alias Agust D, has made a splash in Japan with the release of his latest solo album "D-Day." The album and its tracks quickly climbed to the top of Japan's Oricon charts, with "D-Day" taking the No. 1 spot on the daily album ranking and selling over 110,000 copies in Japan on its first day.
The album's title track, "Haegeum," also made waves, landing at No. 3 on the daily digital singles ranking. The album's other B-side tracks, including "Snooze," "Huh?!" and "Polar Night," also landed in the top 20.
In addition to its success in Japan, "D-Day" also topped iTunes' top song chart in over 90 countries around the world. The official music video for "Haegeum" also surpassed 10 million views on the Hybe Labels channel in less than a day.
Suga, who began his solo career in 2016 with his first mixtape "Agust D," has set records with "D-Day." The album racked up 1.07 million copies in sales on its first day in Korea, breaking the previous record set by his BTS bandmate Jimin with his solo album "Face."
"D-Day" is Suga's first album in three years and marks the final installment of his musical trilogy, which includes his two previous mixtapes. The album features 10 tracks, all of which Suga composed and wrote the lyrics for. With "D-Day," Suga aimed to convey a message of "liberation."
Suga is the fifth BTS member to go solo, following the group's official announcement of a break in July 2022. He is also the first to launch a solo concert tour, starting at Belmont Park in New York on April 26-27 before continuing on to other locations in the US and Asia.
