In a press event held in Seoul, K-pop group Omega X, consisting of 11 members aged between 22 and 28, made their first public appearance in a year since announcing the termination of their contracts with Spire Entertainment. The group had reportedly faced abuse under the management of Spire Entertainment's former CEO.
Despite projecting bright smiles, the members' voices trembled as they addressed the media during the hour-long event, which was organized to celebrate their comeback. Omega X expressed their intention to share hope with those who may have experienced similar situations.
The group's latest album, "iykyk" (short for "if you know you know"), signifies their return after a year and five months since their last release, "Story Written in Music," in June 2022. The album features a variety of genres, including trendy hip-hop and modern rock, with all 11 members contributing to the creation of the five tracks.
Led by the track "Junk Food," a trap hip-hop number, the album showcases the group's improved songwriting and lyric-penning skills. The members, including Junghoon, Hangyeom, Xen, Jaehan, and Yechan, collaborated on writing the lyrics for "Junk Food."
Omega X, known for their efforts in songwriting since their debut in June 2021, emphasized the significance of their shared trust and communication through music, which played a crucial role in their comeback after facing challenges.
The group gained public attention last October during their US tour when a video surfaced showing Spire Entertainment's ex-CEO physically and verbally abusing the members in Los Angeles. Legal battles ensued upon their return to Korea, resulting in a victory for the members in January. In May, Omega X officially ended their contracts with Spire Entertainment and joined local label IPQ.
Describing their new album as a "miracle," the members expressed gratitude for the support received and conveyed their commitment to overcoming challenges through music. Omega X is set to embark on a concert tour in the US and South American regions, with plans to reconnect with their local fans upon returning to Korea.
Omega X's third EP, "iykyk," was released on Tuesday evening.
