In a nation where superhero movies have yet to claim the spotlight, except for those within the "Avengers" universe, the highly anticipated Disney+ original series "Moving" embarks on a mission to prove that Korean superpowers are undeniably extraordinary.
Based on the popular webtoon by acclaimed artist Kang Full, renowned for his hit works like "Love Story," "Apartment," "Timing," and "Neighbor," "Moving" seeks to tell a distinctly Korean superhero tale. Kang Full actively contributed to the series adaptation, personally penning the script for the show.
Speaking at a press conference in central Seoul on Thursday, Kang expressed his desire to infuse a historical twist into the conventional superhero setting. The story revolves around a group of individuals endowed with special abilities, spanning two generations, as they fiercely protect their loved ones. Kang elaborated on how the Korean-style superhero story highlights the nation's history, emphasizing the country's division into two, along with the significance of family bonds.
A star-studded cast featuring Han Hyo-joo, Zo In-sung, Ryu Seung-ryong, Ryoo Seung-bum, Cha Tae-hyun, and more lends gravitas to the series, which reportedly boasts a staggering budget of 50 billion won ($39.5 million).
The adaptation of "Moving" underwent significant changes from its original webtoon version. Kang disclosed that two new characters were introduced to enrich the storyline, along with additional background information to delight fans of the original work.
The creative team behind "Moving," including director Park In-jee and producers, invested three years in meticulous preparation. Distinguishing the series from typical Hollywood superhero films was a priority, as they focused on presenting a uniquely Korean perspective. Rather than fighting for grand ideals, the Korean superheroes in "Moving" center their battles on safeguarding their loved ones.
The visual effects supervisor, Lee Sung-kyu, revealed that "Moving" boasts an impressive 7,540 cuts of visual effects, making it an unparalleled viewing experience.
Kang Full shared his dedication to entertain the audience above all else, delivering humanism and a distinct worldview through his work. With "Moving," he aspires to captivate and delight a wide audience.
Mark your calendars, as "Moving" is set to premiere with seven episodes out of a total of 20 on August 9th, promising an extraordinary superhero journey infused with Korean essence and entertainment.
