A groundbreaking café-playroom concept has opened in Poznań, Poland, designed by CUDO architects to seamlessly integrate spaces for both adults and children. The 160-square-meter Sunday Café-Playroom represents a revolutionary approach to hospitality design, challenging the traditional separation of adult and child-friendly spaces in urban environments.
The innovative project, completed in 2025, was conceptualized around the idea of creating a place that naturally integrates the needs of both adults and children without artificial divisions. The design team, led by architects Tomasz Borowiak and Aleksander Czerwonka-Jabłoński, drew inspiration from Montessori philosophy, which emphasizes freedom, growth, and harmony in educational and social spaces.
Project Manager and Interior Designer Marta Masełko worked alongside Design Manager and Interior Designer Margareta Sztejkowska to bring this unique vision to life. The team observed how urban spaces often artificially divide functions into separate areas designated "for children" and "for adults," and sought to create a more inclusive environment that serves both demographics simultaneously.
The interior design incorporates natural materials, with wood and fabric playing prominent roles in creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The space features carefully selected furnishings and finishes from manufacturers including Rako, Atpol, Camengo, Filzbee, Fiorannese, PARADYZ, and The Good Living, all chosen to support the café's dual-purpose mission.
Photographed by Migdal Studio, the completed project showcases how thoughtful design can break down barriers between different user groups while maintaining functionality and aesthetic appeal. The Sunday Café-Playroom stands as an example of how contemporary hospitality design can evolve to better serve diverse community needs, particularly in urban settings where space is at a premium and family-friendly venues are increasingly important for community building.
