A spectacular three-meter-long lobster sculpture has been officially unveiled at Bridlington's seafront, celebrating the coastal town's prestigious status as one of Europe's largest lobster exporters. The impressive artwork, strategically positioned at Pembroke Gardens directly across from Bridlington Spa, serves as a permanent tribute to the community's deep-rooted maritime heritage and thriving seafood industry.

The striking sculpture, crafted entirely from woven steel, is the creative work of local artist Emma Stothard, who is renowned throughout the region for her innovative sculptures using willow and wire materials. Born in Hull and raised in Kilnsea, Stothard has established herself as a prominent figure in Yorkshire's artistic community, bringing her unique vision to this landmark project that now graces Bridlington's popular waterfront.

Lesley Jackson, the generous donor who made the sculpture's installation possible, expressed her enthusiasm during Saturday morning's official unveiling ceremony. "I first saw this sculpture in Emma Stothard's studio in Whitby. I absolutely love it, I said then it should be displayed in the lobster capital of Europe, and here it is," Jackson shared with attendees. Her immediate recognition of the artwork's potential impact on the community ultimately led to its permanent placement in this prominent seaside location.

The ambitious project received substantial support from multiple local organizations, demonstrating the community's united commitment to celebrating their maritime identity. Jackson's business, Hudson Contract, served as the primary sponsor for the sculpture's arrival, while additional backing came from Bridlington Ambassadors, Bridlington in Bloom, Brightening Up Bridlington, Bridlington Town Council, and East Riding Council. This collaborative effort reflects the widespread community pride in Bridlington's reputation as a major player in Europe's lobster trade.

According to representatives from Bridlington Ambassadors, the sculpture stands as a dedicated tribute to the harbor community and the countless individuals whose livelihoods depend on the town's bustling seafood industry. The artwork not only serves as an eye-catching tourist attraction but also symbolizes the economic importance of lobster fishing and export activities that have shaped Bridlington's identity for generations, cementing its place as a cornerstone of the local economy and cultural heritage.
