Federico Pacini has unveiled what is being called the most original book presentation of the week with his photography collection "Mostra," published by 89books in 2025. The presentation itself serves as both an exhibition and a philosophical exploration of visual perception, challenging traditional approaches to photography and meaning-making.

The title "Mostra" carries deep significance beyond its surface meaning. In English, "to show" implies minimal gestures that require viewers to suspend judgment, renounce explanation, and rely on the emergence of forms that cannot be fully named. According to Pacini's accompanying text, the visible is not simply given but surfaces gradually, always maintaining a degree of opacity that resists complete understanding.

The etymology of "Mostra" reveals additional layers of meaning, deriving from the Latin word "monstrare" and sharing roots with "mostro" (monster). This connection suggests something that disrupts established order and demands attention not to be understood, but to exist in its discontinuity. Pacini positions photography not as a tool for clarification, but as an instrument of interruption that halts the gaze precisely where reality ceases to align with its appearance.

The 107 images in the collection deliberately avoid assertive organization or synthesis. Instead, they unfold in time with the same discretion as minor things that seek not centrality but endurance through time. Their visual language relies on intervals and the unfinished, with each image functioning as both a split and an intermittence in the flow of perception.

Pacini's photographic focus centers on elements often overlooked elsewhere: leftovers, residues, and marginal subjects. Within this marginality, tension arises not toward definitive meaning but toward a threshold that is never fully crossed. The temporal dimension in these works is neither linear nor conclusive, instead appearing suspended and dilated across details, edges, and unspoken spaces.

The world presented in "Mostra" exists as a parallel reality that remains close to our own experience while being distinguished not by content but by its unique mode of perception. This reality withholds itself rather than revealing its secrets, actively resisting easy understanding and inviting viewers into a more contemplative engagement with the photographic medium.

The book, translated into English by Marta Basagni, measures 280x210mm and contains 204 pages with 107 pictures in softcover format. The design was handled by 89books, and the publication carries ISBN 979-12-80423-78-8. Additional information about the book and publisher can be found at 89books.com.
