Netflix has released new architectural renderings of its ambitious $1.2 billion production facility currently under construction in New Jersey. The massive 292-acre campus, which received approval from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority Board last December, represents Netflix's flagship East Coast production location and marks a significant investment in the state's entertainment industry.

Construction on the sprawling complex began in May and is now actively underway in Oceanport, New Jersey, which borders Eatontown. The project involves transforming a former military base that Netflix acquired during a competitive 2022 bidding war into a cutting-edge film and television production facility. Local architectural firm Mancini Duffy is leading the design of the state-of-the-art campus, which will feature a total of 500,000 square feet of office and production space.

Governor Murphy emphasized the project's significance during the groundbreaking ceremony in May, stating, "As the birthplace of the motion picture industry, New Jersey couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Netflix—a name synonymous with 21st century entertainment—to the Garden State." The Governor added that "The Netflix studio at Fort Monmouth further solidifies New Jersey's reputation as a global leader in film and television production, attracting some of the world's top filmmakers and creators to the state."

The comprehensive facility will house 12 soundstages specifically designed for film and television production, along with office spaces, retail areas, and a hotel. Strategically positioned between New York City and Philadelphia and conveniently located near regional airports via Route 35, the campus offers exceptional accessibility for the entertainment industry. The main entrance, connected to Route 35 from the west, will feature two monumental brick archways that serve as impressive gateways to the complex.

The latest renderings show significant design updates from previous versions, particularly regarding the soundstages. While earlier renderings depicted structures with flat roofs, the newest designs showcase volumes topped with distinctive barrel vaults. Each soundstage will soar to a height of 70 feet and encompass 22,000 square feet of production space. The architectural team has also developed new landscaping features that will embrace the campus perimeter, creating an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Demolition work has already commenced on existing structures, though the project will preserve one historic building. The Vail Hall Building, recognizing its historical significance, will be carefully repurposed into modern office space. Meanwhile, a bowling alley constructed in 1965 has been demolished to make room for a contemporary stormwater management facility, demonstrating the project's commitment to modern infrastructure and environmental considerations.

The construction timeline is divided into two distinct phases across different sections of the campus. Phase one focuses on the Oceanport section to the east, which will feature four soundstages as the initial component of the project. Phase two will develop the Eatontown section of the campus, adding eight additional soundstages, extensive perimeter landscaping, and comprehensive parking facilities.

According to the current construction schedule, phase one construction on the initial four studios is planned for completion in 2027. The remaining phase two construction, which includes the eight additional studios in the Eatontown section, is expected to wrap up in 2028, marking the full completion of Netflix's ambitious East Coast production hub.
