Rising Korean recorder player Hojin Kwon will take the stage at the Korean Cultural Center in Belgium on October 14, 2025, for a special concert titled "In:Spir-Ation" as part of the KCC On Stage 2025 series. The free admission concert, which requires advance reservations, will begin at 8:00 PM and is part of a broader initiative to showcase ten Korean performing arts at the cultural center.

Kwon, who captured both the Second Prize and the Audience Prize at the prestigious 2021 MA Competition in Bruges, has established herself as a prominent figure in the international classical music scene. Her performances have been featured on renowned European broadcasting networks including BBC Radio 3 and SRF 2 Kultur, where she has gained recognition for her ability to bridge early music traditions with contemporary and improvisational works. Critics have praised her performances as "a true fireworks display – emotionally rich and artistically refined."

Joining Kwon on stage will be acclaimed harpsichordist Mélanie Flores, a winner at the 2022 International Bach Competition in Leipzig. The two musicians, who are fellow members of the ensemble 'Sonorità,' have developed a remarkable musical partnership that promises to deliver an evening of exceptional chamber music. Their collaboration will present what organizers describe as "a diverse tapestry of melodies" that weaves together the profound depth of early music with modern sensibilities through the dialogue between recorder and harpsichord.

The concert program spans several centuries of musical composition, opening with Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's "Vestiva i Colli" featuring diminutions by Francesco Rognoni from 1620. The evening will also include contemporary works such as Johan Huys' "Ceci n'est pas une passacaille" for two-manual harpsichord, composed in 2018. Classical masterpieces will be represented through Arcangelo Corelli's Sonata No. 10 in F major, Op. 5, and Johann Sebastian Bach's Sonata in F major, BWV 1016, originally composed in E major.

Additional pieces on the program include Paolo Benedetto Bellinzani's Sonata No. 12 in D minor, Op. 3 from 1720, and Conrad Steinmann's contemporary work "Remember" from 1994. Each composition showcases different aspects of the recorder's versatility and the intricate musical conversation possible between the two period instruments.

Kwon's musical journey began at the Korea National University of Arts before she continued her advanced studies at the prestigious Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where she completed her degrees with the highest honors. She currently serves as a faculty member at the Musikschule Konservatorium Zurich and actively performs across Europe and Asia as both a soloist and chamber musician. As a founding member of both the Sonorità and Las Lunas ensembles, she continues to explore both historical and contemporary repertoire.

Her performance partner, Mexican harpsichordist Mélanie Flores, brings her own impressive credentials to the collaboration. Beyond her competition success, Flores has performed at prestigious festivals across Europe and Mexico, including Jeunes Talents in Paris and the Fringe Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht. She has appeared with the Venice Baroque Orchestra and participated in numerous opera productions, while also working as a choral conductor and educator with master's degrees in both performance and pedagogy from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Reservations for this free concert will open at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 23, through the Korean Cultural Center's online reservation system. The KCC On Stage 2025 series represents the center's commitment to introducing diverse Korean performing arts to Belgian audiences and fostering cultural exchange through exceptional musical experiences.
