KOI NIPPON/KOI has announced the names of 14 participating artists for the inaugural SEEEU 2025 - European Month of Photography in Tokyo, marking Japan's first European photography month festival. The ambitious photography festival will run from October 23 to November 23, 2025, with support from the Arts Council Tokyo, Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, and the European Union.
The exhibiting artists list comprises 12 artists in total, with 11 names announced today and the grand winner to be selected from the Photo Reportage Prize finalists and revealed on opening day. The works of the Photo Reportage Prize finalists will be featured in the specially published SEEEU ZINE, adding another dimension to the festival's comprehensive presentation.
This groundbreaking photography festival will showcase works reflecting contemporary Europe across diverse indoor and outdoor venues throughout Tokyo, specifically in Minato-ku, Shibuya-ku, Setagaya-ku, Meguro-ku, and Shinjuku-ku. The festival aims to introduce European photographic talent within Tokyo's urban landscape while fostering new professional and creative opportunities for both European and Japanese artists.
The festival's theme, "Reframing Realities," explores the perspective shifts that define and reshape contemporary Europe. From Europe's dynamic communities to changing identities in the digital age, the theme examines how realities are constantly created, erased, and reinvented. Amid conflicts, migration, and climate crisis, photographers blur the boundaries between reportage and invention, raising questions about where limits exist and who redefines them in a world dominated by self-curation, retouching, synthetic beauty, and loss.
More than 250 works will be displayed across Tokyo's indoor and outdoor locations, including construction site fences, cafes, and galleries. This innovative approach transforms everyday urban spaces into artistic scenes, creating new encounters between art and people. The festival's unique positioning in various public spaces democratizes access to contemporary European photography.
The festival runs with free admission, making it accessible to all visitors interested in exploring contemporary European photography. Organizers have provided detailed information about venues, official ambassadors, and events taking place throughout the festival period, ensuring comprehensive coverage of this inaugural cultural exchange between Europe and Japan.
