The sextet, which includes only one Korean member, Yoonchae, has raised doubts about the potential success of a predominantly non-Korean K-pop group.
Early indicators such as Spotify and iTunes real-time charts show that Katseye's debut single, "Debut," released on June 28, has not gained significant traction. In comparison, Hybe's previous girl group Illit reached No. 92 on Spotify within a day of their debut.
In Korea, Katseye has also struggled to make an impact, failing to chart on Melon's Top 100 or register on Hanteo Chart as of Monday.
Music agencies traditionally monitor YouTube views and channel subscriptions to gauge fan reactions, with Katseye's "Debut" music video amassing 2.33 million views within three days.
However, industry experts like music critic Lim Hee-yun are skeptical about Katseye's immediate prospects for success, despite contributions from renowned producers like Ryan Tedder and Omer Fedi.
