French photographer Léa Marciano has unveiled her latest project, "Tikkun Olam" (Repairing the World), a compelling collection of photographs captured between France and Israel over nearly two years following the October 7, 2023 attacks. The book, set to be published on October 7 - a highly symbolic date - documents the anonymous activists and individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to preserve the memory of hostages and demonstrate the resilience of the Jewish people.

Speaking on i24NEWS, Marciano explained her motivation for the project: "I wanted to highlight those who are not seen: those who put up posters at night, who demonstrate, who refuse to forget." Through her lens, the photographer seeks to capture both pain and light, emphasizing how "the Jewish people have always found balance between chaos and resilience, always rising up, dancing, singing while cultivating memory."

The book opens with haunting images of the kibbutzim that were devastated on October 7, 2023, but quickly transitions to follow various collectives, associations, and individuals who each contribute to "repairing the world" in their own way. Marciano's photographs document women putting up posters in the cold Parisian streets and marches commemorating the fate of women who were violated by Hamas. Her work captures these modest yet essential gestures that demonstrate unshakeable humanity.

For Marciano, the choice of title "Tikkun Olam" carries deep significance and was not made lightly. "It's a notion full of hope," she explained. "It allows us to remain standing despite history, despite what continues to happen to us." Through her photographic work, she pays tribute to a vibrant solidarity that exists within communities, showcasing how ordinary people perform extraordinary acts of remembrance and resistance.

The photographer's two-year journey documenting this resilience reveals a complex narrative of grief transformed into action. Her images capture the duality of Jewish experience - acknowledging profound trauma while simultaneously celebrating the indomitable spirit that refuses to be broken. The book serves as both a memorial and a testament to the power of collective action in the face of tragedy.
