The San Carlos de Apoquindo Stadium, currently known as Claro Arena, has completed a comprehensive modernization project designed by IDOM architects. The stadium, which originally opened on September 4, 1988, serves as the home venue for Universidad Católica's football team and is located in the Las Condes municipality of Santiago, Chile.

The modernization project covers an area of 39,592 square meters and was completed in 2025. The stadium sits on a sloping site between the mountains and Manquehue Hill, offering spectacular views toward the city of Santiago. The original design featured a partially buried configuration that took advantage of the natural topography of the site.

The architectural team was led by Borja Gómez and César Azcárate, with collaboration from numerous architects including Agostina Sambataro, Carmen Prada, Clara Guzmán, Diego Rodriguez Segura, Felipe Vergara Galleguillos, Fernando Garrido, and several others. The project involved multiple engineering disciplines, with WSP handling both engineering and project management responsibilities, while IDOM provided acoustic design expertise.

One of the key features of the original stadium design was its differentiated access points between the eastern side facing Fouilloux Street and the western side facing Livingstone Street. This design element was preserved and enhanced during the modernization process to improve circulation and crowd management.

The renovation project focused on updating the stadium's infrastructure while maintaining its iconic partially buried design that has made it a distinctive landmark in Santiago's skyline. The facility's location between the Andes Mountains and the urban landscape of Las Condes provides a unique setting that the architects sought to preserve and enhance through their modernization efforts.

ChileSeating was among the manufacturers involved in the project, contributing to the stadium's updated seating arrangements. The comprehensive renovation ensures that the venue meets modern standards for professional football while respecting its original architectural vision and the natural beauty of its mountain setting.
