A new residential extension project has been completed in Punta Ballena, Uruguay, showcasing innovative modular architecture design. Casa Luna, designed by iHouse estudio, represents a unique approach to expanding living spaces through intimate pavilion construction.
The 40-square-meter project was commissioned by Nacho Mazzini, a friend of the studio and owner of what he calls the "yellow house with a round window" that was originally built in 2021. Fascinated by the functionality of his existing home and observing the evolution of his family dynamics, Mazzini decided to add a new module on an adjoining plot next to his first iHouse structure.
The architectural team, led by Andres Garcia, Marcelo Mederos, Agustín Sica, and Mateo Arjona, designed the extension with a specific purpose in mind. The intention was to create an intimate and reflective pavilion that would serve as a space for contemplation, while avoiding the traditional challenges of building a conventional house directly adjacent to the existing residence.
Located near the Arboretum in Punta Ballena, the project demonstrates iHouse estudio's commitment to modular and thoughtful residential design. The extension maintains architectural harmony with the original structure while providing distinct functional spaces for the growing family's needs.
Photography for the project was provided by Aldo Lanzi and Agustin Sica, capturing the seamless integration of the new pavilion with its natural surroundings. The completed extension represents a successful example of how contemporary architecture can adapt to changing family requirements while respecting the existing built environment.
