Olney Gleason Gallery has announced that it will now exclusively represent the works of renowned Abstract Expressionist artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. This significant development in the art world marks a major transition for the representation of these iconic American artists' estates.
The artistic duo was previously represented by Kasmin Gallery, which had established what they described as "an artistic reunion" between Pollock's work and that of his wife, Lee Krasner. Kasmin Gallery had announced its representation of Jackson Pollock's work through the Pollock-Krasner Foundation in September 2024, making this transition to Olney Gleason particularly notable in the contemporary art market.
The change in representation comes as galleries continue to navigate transitions following the loss of key figures in the art world. Kasmin Gallery has been working to move forward after losing its founder, with gallery representatives previously stating that Paul Kasmin was too passionate about his work to have ever considered retirement.
Both Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner are considered pivotal figures in the Abstract Expressionist movement that emerged in post-World War II America. Pollock, famous for his revolutionary drip painting technique, and Krasner, a formidable artist in her own right who often worked in his shadow during their marriage, have seen renewed interest in their combined artistic legacy in recent years.
The exclusive representation by Olney Gleason Gallery is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the presentation and marketing of these influential artists' works. This move reflects the ongoing evolution of the high-end art market, where gallery representation can significantly impact an artist's visibility and market value, even for established masters whose works are already held in major museum collections worldwide.
