A 77-year-old man was brutally attacked by a driver after leaving a No Kings protest at the Airport Rotary in Hyannis, leaving him fearing for his life during the violent encounter. Jeffrey Smith said he had just finished participating in the demonstration when the unprovoked assault occurred.
Smith reported that he was walking away from the protest site when a vehicle suddenly stopped near him. The driver then got out of the car and launched a physical attack on the elderly man, according to Smith's account of the incident. The assault was apparently motivated by Smith's participation in the No Kings protest, though the exact circumstances that led to the confrontation remain unclear.
During the frightening ordeal, Smith genuinely believed his life was in danger. "I thought I might get killed," Smith stated, describing the terror he experienced during the attack. The elderly man's fear highlights the severity of the assault and the vulnerable position he found himself in when confronted by his much younger attacker.
The incident raises serious concerns about safety at political demonstrations and the protection of protesters exercising their constitutional rights. Local authorities are expected to investigate this attack on an elderly citizen who was simply leaving a peaceful protest, as such violence against protesters of any age is completely unacceptable in a democratic society.
