November 3rd, 2023 - Renowned drag performer Nana Youngrong Kim is bringing his solo show "NA, NA" back to The Trinity Gallery in central Seoul.
Kim has assumed the duties of conceptual and artistic director for the photo exhibit, which runs from November 2 to November 15. He has worked with three other creatives, NOVV KIM, Yezoi Hwang, and Kim mumU, to realize his vision.
"NA, NA" is a two-chapter book that delves into Kim's self-discovery using the theatrical language of drag: "The Persona Prism" and "NANA Character Energy." The title of the show combines the artist's moniker with the Korean term for "I" or "me."

11월 2일부터 15일까지 진행되는 사진전에서 작가는 컨셉 및 예술 감독의 역할을 맡아 다른 세 명의 크리에이티브인 김노브(NOVV KIM), 황예조이(Yezoi Hwang), 김맘유(Kim mumU)와 협력하여 자신의 비전을 실현했습니다.
'NA, NA'는 드래그라는 언어를 통해 작가의 자기탐색을 향한 여정으로, '페르소나 프리즘'과 '나나 캐릭터 에너지'라는 두 개의 챕터로 나누어져 있습니다. 전시 제목에는 작가의 활동명뿐만 아니라 '나', '나'를 뜻하는 한국어 단어도 반영되어 있습니다.
Kim combines the ideas of "persona," which is essential to drag performance, with "prism" in the first chapter to emphasize his limitless creative energy. Here, the artist presents himself in drag as none other than himself, letting the many sides of his imaginative and creative fantasies come to life in a lighthearted manner.
In the next chapter, he assumes the personas of a variety of characters from other genres, such as noir and "high teen," a pop culture aesthetic linked to images of teenagers and high school. In a way, the show serves as a static, scaled-down replica of his own drag performance, providing an insight into his complex creative persona.
It's challenging to sum up my existence in a phrase or sentence. With luck, Kim stated in his artist's remark, "Guests attending this exhibition will see these various depictions of me and consider each of them as a representation of myself.
첫 번째 챕터에서 김작가는 드래그 퍼포먼스의 핵심 요소인 '페르소나'와 '프리즘'의 개념을 결합해 그의 무한한 표현 에너지를 부각시킵니다. 여기에서 작가는 자신의 드래그 퍼스낼리티를 다름 아닌 자기 자신으로 확립하고, 자신의 창의적 욕망과 환상의 다양한 측면이 재치 있게 흘러나오도록 표현 했습니다.
이어지는 챕터에서 그는 느와르부터 고등학교 및 청소년 이미지와 관련된 대중 문화 미학인 '하이틴'에 이르기까지 다양한 장르에 걸쳐 볼 수 있는 다양한 캐릭터로 변신합니다. 이번 전시는 어떤 면에서 그의 라이브 드래그 쇼의 정적인 축소판 역할을 하며, 그의 다각적인 예술적 정체성을 엿볼 수 있는 기회를 제공합니다.
“나의 존재를 한 단어나 문장으로 표현하기는 어렵습니다. 이번 전시를 관람하시는 분들이 나의 다양한 모습을 보고, 그 하나하나가 나 자신의 모습으로 여겨졌으면 좋겠습니다” 라고 아티스트 노트에 적었다, 라고 말했습니다.
