In the year 2071, Earth is suffering from severe air pollution, rendering the air toxic and making it impossible to breathe without oxygen. People are forced to rely on delivery services for even the most basic necessities, such as oxygen bottles, and those who deliver them are known as "black knights."
The new Netflix series "Black Knight," directed by Choi Ui-seok of "Cold Eyes" (2013) and "Master" (2016), is based on the popular webtoon "Delivery Knight" by Lee Yoon-kyun, published from 2016 to 2019. The six-episode series stars Kim Woo-bin as a refugee-turned-legendary deliveryman and knight called "5-8," and Song Seung-heon as Ryu Seok, the sole successor to Cheon Myeong Group, which dominates the world with its sales of oxygen.
Speaking at a press conference in Seoul, Kim expressed his curiosity about how people in the future will rely heavily on oxygen delivery, given the mask-wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also praised director Choi, with whom he previously worked on "Master," for making shooting "Black Knight" such an enjoyable project.

Director Choi said that producing the dystopian drama series required a lot of energy, as if he were making two films. Each episode contains a concrete storyline with an intro, development, turn and conclusion, with action scenes that are also worth watching.
Protagonist 5-8 is one of 11 black knights who works as a deliveryman during the day and guards groups of refugees at night. His mission is to change the perception of refugees as the most useless group of people in the hierarchical society. He is joined by Yoon Sa-wol, played by Kang You-seok, who wishes to become a black knight as well.
To vividly depict the Earth in 2071 without oxygen, a variety of computer graphics techniques were used to portray the desertification of Seoul and fine dust particles and freckles on the characters' faces. Esom stars as Seol-ah, an officer in the Defense Intelligence Command, who saves Sa-wol's life and supports 5-8 in helping Sa-wol become a black knight.
The series is an action-packed adventure that explores a post-apocalyptic world in which deliverymen are the unsung heroes. It also touches on the importance of the environment and how our actions today can affect the future. "Black Knight" is a must-watch for sci-fi fans and anyone interested in thought-provoking storytelling.
