Jeong-yun Choi holds his solo exhibition, 'The Flesh of Passange' at Gallery Palzo in Daegu.
Choi is a Korean sculptor who creates the futile ideological reality of human desire as a visual object based on the subject of the 'Sword'. He has been immersed in reinterpreting the essential attributes of the 'Sword', which symbolizes power and historical reality in Eastern cultures, human desire, for over 10 years.

The artist initially worked with ceramic, but the more he was concerned with the material, the more he encountered common forms and stereotypes in reinterpreting bronze swords. Since then, he has started to produce sculptures as the sword, and now he sublimates the essential properties of materials into works using salt and thread.
On the other hand, he thinks that flowers are like genitals, the starting point of life. Sward and flower are materials that look different, but one aspect is that they have similarities in that they have desires that are cleverly hidden in their appearance. He adds the meaning of the work by expressing these objects in an image structure rather than choosing them as direct subjects.

Choi reproduces the form of a sword through thread, expressing reduced aggression, emotions, and desires hidden inside humans. In particular, he strives to create a masterpiece by pouring his soul into the production of his work as if a craftsman were producing his sword.
His craftsmanship is also revealed in his canvas work. The artist expresses various phenomena of human society entangled in the rings of life on a canvas with threads of various colors. He visually linguizes the reality of human desire hidden under the white cotton division composition.

Through the exhibition, the audience will have the opportunity to appreciate various sculptures and canvas artworks and think deeply about human desires and essence, and the implications of power and wealth that are difficult to capture.
The exhibition will be held at Gallery Palzo, located in Daegu, until Feb. 3 next year.
