At just 14 years old, Marion Buard, a photography enthusiast from Rochefort, has distinguished herself among the winners of the regional contest "Plumes, poils, pétales" (Feathers, Fur, Petals), dedicated to biodiversity. For the past four years, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region has been organizing the Plumes, Poils, Pétales contest, a photography competition focused on biodiversity themes, designed for young people aged 14 to 18. At 14, one of the contest's winners hails from Rochefort. The event coincides with other regional cultural developments, including the opening of the Photography Art Center in Bergerac, which is hosting its first exhibition, "Objectifs Nouvelle-Aquitaine, révélation d'un territoire en mouvement" (Nouvelle-Aquitaine Objectives, revealing a territory in motion). For Marion Buard, participating in this type of contest is simply another way to pursue her goals and passion. She discovered her love for photography during a casual outing with her family. "I was walking around with my parents, and we passed by a stand that was selling a camera, so we bought it," Marion explained. Participating in a contest related to biodiversity was a natural choice for Marion, who has developed a particular interest in nature photography. "I take a lot of photos in the forest with my parents. I especially enjoy photographing plants," she said. It was during one of these family walks in nature that Marion captured the photograph that would earn her the victory in the competition. The young photographer has found her niche in documenting the natural world, particularly focusing on subjects that she feels are often misunderstood or subjected to too many preconceptions. Her winning photograph represents not only her technical skill but also her unique perspective on the biodiversity that surrounds her in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The success of this young photographer highlights the importance of regional initiatives that encourage youth participation in artistic and environmental awareness programs, while also showcasing the emerging talent in the area's cultural landscape.
