Keena, a member of K-pop girl group Fifty Fifty, has decided to withdraw from the group's ongoing lawsuit against their agency, Attrakt, concerning a contractual dispute. This decision marks a recent development in the protracted legal battle that has endured for nearly four months.
On Monday, Keena, also known as Song Ja-kyung, formally requested the court to remove her from Fifty Fifty's injunction request against Attrakt. Consequently, the lawsuit will proceed with the remaining three members of the girl group, Saena (Jeong Se-hyun), Sio (Jeong Ji-ho), and Aran (Jung Eun-ah). Keena has chosen Shinwon Law Firm as her new legal representative, parting ways with Barun Law LLC.
The motive behind Keena's withdrawal remains unclear. Speculation suggests a potential disagreement between Keena and other Fifty Fifty group members during the ongoing legal proceedings.
An official from Attrakt stated on Tuesday that Keena had expressed her desire to rejoin the agency, a significant shift from Attrakt's previous stance that ruled out any possibility of reconciliation with the group.
In the meantime, the remaining three members of Fifty Fifty continue their dispute with Attrakt. On the same day Keena withdrew from the lawsuit, Saena, Sio, and Aran posted a lengthy statement on social media criticizing Attrakt and alleging the agency's failure to protect the artists' rights.
Fifty Fifty gained global fame earlier this year with their hit track "Cupid," charting on the Billboard Hot 100 for 21 consecutive weeks. Despite being under a smaller agency compared to industry giants, their meteoric rise was interrupted by the legal dispute, leaving the group in an uncertain position.
Industry observers suggest both Fifty Fifty and Attrakt may have been unprepared for the sudden international success, drawing parallels to "The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs" from Aesop's Fables.
