South Korean boy group Stray Kids has made music history once again by securing their eighth consecutive No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart with their latest album "Do It." The achievement extends their unprecedented record as the first act in the chart's 69-year history to debut at the top position with their first eight album entries.
According to Billboard's chart preview released on Sunday, "Do It" claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 for the week ending November 27. The album earned an impressive 295,000 equivalent album units, with an overwhelming 286,000 units coming from physical album sales. This demonstrates the group's remarkable ability to drive traditional album purchases in an increasingly digital music landscape.
Billboard emphasized the historic nature of this accomplishment, stating that when Stray Kids' previous album "Karma" topped the chart in September, they became the first act to achieve eight consecutive No. 1 debuts in the Billboard 200's nearly seven-decade history. With "Do It's" debut at No. 1, they have further extended this remarkable streak. Additionally, the group now holds the record for the most No. 1 albums among musical groups since 2000, cementing their dominance in the contemporary music scene.
This latest success represents the eighth chart-topper in Stray Kids' impressive discography. Their journey to Billboard dominance began with "Oddinary" and "Maxident" in 2022, continued with "5-Star" and "Rock-Star" in 2023, and accelerated with "Ate" and "Hop" in 2024, before "Karma" and now "Do It" rounded out their 2024 achievements.
Released on November 21, "Do It" is a compact but powerful five-track album featuring double title tracks "Do It" and "Divine," alongside "Holiday," "Photobook," and a special "Do It (Festival version)." The album showcases the creative involvement of the group's producing unit 3RACHA, consisting of members Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, who contributed to the songwriting for all tracks on the album.
According to JYP Entertainment, the album's concept centers on the group's philosophy of living boldly and confidently in the present moment. The music captures Stray Kids' journey of embracing the present while forging new creative paths, reflecting their belief in acting with courage and determination. This thematic approach resonates strongly with their global fanbase, known as STAY, who continue to support the group's ambitious artistic endeavors.
The Billboard 200 chart measures album popularity in the United States through equivalent album units, which combine traditional physical album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Stray Kids' ability to generate such substantial physical sales in the digital age highlights their unique appeal and the dedication of their international fanbase, positioning them as one of the most commercially successful K-pop acts in the American market.
