Amidst a whirlwind of anticipation, the World Scout Jamboree's grand finale is set to crescendo with an electrifying K-pop concert at Seoul World Cup Stadium this Friday, presenting a dazzling prospect for all attendees.
Originally slated for the Jamboree's open-air stage at Saemangeum, a reclaimed tidal flat in North Jeolla Province, the "K-Pop Super Live" extravaganza faced its fair share of twists. With heat safety considerations in mind, the event was rescheduled to Jeonju World Cup Stadium, only to be uprooted once again due to the approach of Typhoon Khanun. A fitting culmination, the concert will now amplify the Jamboree's closing ceremony at 7 p.m.
In light of these changes, the initial lineup is expected to undergo adjustments. While the final participation status of acts such as IVE, NMIXX, VERIVERY, and STAYC remains uncertain, NewJeans has been confirmed. A comprehensive lineup announcement is expected to follow, guided by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
Minister Park Bo-gyoon expressed the shift in venue with regret, acknowledging the impact of the impending typhoon. He affirmed that despite the alterations, the K-pop finale will undoubtedly captivate 40,000 participants, uniting them in an unforgettable cultural spectacle.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Culture unveiled plans to enrich the Jamboree experience with an array of cultural activities. Scouts will immerse themselves in on-site engagements and explore curated exhibitions at prestigious locales like Cheong Wa Dae, the former presidential office, and the Seoul Museum of History. Noteworthy exhibits, including "The Korean War and the South Korea-United States Alliance" and "The Pop Culture We Loved and Rise of the Korean Wave," promise to captivate attendees.
To delve deeper into Korean culture, the National Museum of Korea, National Hangeul Museum, and National Folk Museum will extend guided English tours. Seoul Arts Center will unveil a bespoke modern calligraphy exhibit exclusively for Jamboree participants, while the National Gugak Center will orchestrate a special concert in honor of the Scouts.
Minister Park reaffirmed the government's commitment to facilitating an immersive cultural experience outside the Jamboree's original site, and underscored the value of delving into Korea's rich heritage.
The government's earnest efforts to address past missteps by enhancing the Scouts' experience garnered attention. After facing criticism for logistical challenges and mismanagement, which prompted contingents from Britain, America, and Singapore to relocate from the campsite to various locations, the event has striven to provide a comprehensive and engaging platform. This year's Jamboree event, uniting over 43,000 participants from 159 countries, promises to culminate in an unforgettable celebration of culture and camaraderie.
