In a significant casting shakeup, acclaimed actress Go Ara is set to assume the lead role in Tving's upcoming original series, "Chunhwa Love Story" (a direct translation), following the departure of Go Ah-sung, who cited health reasons for her exit.
The streaming platform confirmed this development on Thursday, revealing that Go Ara will portray the character of Princess Hwari in this period romance drama.
Go Ah-sung, the original choice for the role of the princess, recently endured an injury that resulted in a twelve-week hospitalization, ultimately compelling her to withdraw from the project.
Adapted from a novel of the same name, the forthcoming series will revolve around Princess Hwari, an unconventional and fiercely independent young royal, defying the constraints of her upbringing. As she blossoms into adulthood, Hwari boldly rejects an arranged marriage, embarking on a journey to find true love beyond the confines of the palace.
Joining Go Ara in the cast is actor Chang Ryul, who will portray Choi Hwan, the city's most eligible bachelor and Hwari's first potential suitor. Notably, singer and actor Kang Chan-hee will step into the role of elite scholar Jang Won, while Son Woo-hyun will assume the character of Hwari's older brother, Prince Seung.
The highly-anticipated series, slated for a premiere next year, will be under the directorial helm of Lee Gwang-young, known for his work on Disney+'s melodrama series, "Call It Love" (2023). The script is penned by Seo Eun-jung, the writer behind Netflix's popular sitcom, "So Not Worth It" (2021).
Two prominent production houses, Beyond J and SLL, notable for their work on "Call It Love" and "Reborn Rich," respectively, are co-producing the series.
Go Ara, who made her debut as a child actor and rose to stardom with her lead role in the hit teen series "Sharp" in 2003, has garnered immense popularity. Her portrayal of the main character in the immensely successful series "Reply 1994" (2013) further solidified her status as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. With a diverse portfolio of TV series and films, including the occult series "Black" and her recent appearance in the action film "The Childe" as the enigmatic Yoon-joo, Go Ara continues to captivate audiences with her versatile talents.
