The Department of Lot is organizing several free activities to complement the 'Figures de Pierre' exhibition dedicated to Romanesque art, currently on display in Cahors. These educational and interactive events are designed to enhance visitors' understanding and appreciation of the historical art form.
Two special events have been scheduled as part of the exhibition programming. On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM, a creative workshop will be held featuring collage, drawing, and poetry activities. The workshop will also include a curated selection of contemporary works from the Lot art library that connect thematically with the main exhibition. This particular session is specifically designed for children who must be accompanied by an adult, making it an ideal family-friendly cultural activity.
The second event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM, and will feature a meet-and-greet session with master craftsman sculptor Frédéric Patte. During this presentation, Patte will provide insights into the profession of sculpting and conduct live demonstrations of sculpting techniques. This hands-on demonstration offers visitors a unique opportunity to witness traditional craftsmanship and learn about the technical aspects of stone carving that relate directly to the Romanesque art featured in the exhibition.
Interested participants can register for these activities through the Planète Lot program page at lot.fr/programme-planete-lot. Registration is required for both events, and participation is completely free of charge.
The 'Figures de Pierre' exhibition itself runs through September 19, 2025, and is housed in the lobby of Cité Bessières in Cahors, located on Avenue Pierre Mendès-France, near the Grand Palais. The exhibition space offers convenient access to visitors exploring the cultural district of the city.
Admission to the exhibition is free, and it is open to the public Monday through Friday with operating hours from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The exhibition showcases various aspects of Romanesque art, providing visitors with an educational journey through this significant period in art history.
These complementary activities represent part of the Department of Lot's broader cultural programming initiative, aimed at making art and cultural heritage more accessible to residents and visitors of all ages. The combination of the main exhibition with interactive workshops and professional demonstrations creates a comprehensive cultural experience that appeals to different learning styles and age groups.
