엔드리스 러브(Endless Love), Aluminum block by milling on canvas, 100×100cm, Courtesy of the Seoul Auction
Kwak Shin’s first solo exhibition, “ENDLESS,” will run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 15 at Seoul Auction Gangnam Center.
Kwak Shin is the artist name used by Kwak Dong Shin, chairman of Hanmi Semiconductor. The exhibition marks his first solo presentation under the name and brings together approximately 60 works made with aluminum.
The exhibition is organized around the theme of time continuing indefinitely across metal. Kwak applies materials and precision-processing methods drawn from 29 years of work in the semiconductor equipment industry.
The works begin with computer-aided designs produced using AutoCAD. Aluminum is then cut through CNC milling and industrial robotic machining before the finished components are arranged on canvas according to repeated structures.
“Endless Love” consists of precisely machined aluminum hearts placed in a recurring pattern. The work brings together the physical properties of metal and a symbol commonly associated with affection.

“Super Rich” repeatedly uses the dollar sign. Kwak machines and arranges the economic symbol into a regulated visual structure.
“Forever Young” presents clock forms without hour or minute hands. Repeated images of stopped clocks address both suspended and continuing time.
Repetition in Kwak’s work is linked to industrial production. Processes of design, machining, assembly and inspection are reflected in the regular arrangement and surface treatment of the works.
The exhibition will be held at Seoul Auction Gangnam Center, 864 Eonju-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
