Milan-based ZIMMER Studio has unveiled ES_MORE, an innovative dual-store retail concept in Palma de Mallorca that explores fresh approaches to multibrand retail through precise material selection and spatial contrast. The project combines tactile finishes, sculptural forms, and a sophisticated interplay between contemporary art and fashion to create an immersive shopping experience.
The concept consists of two distinct yet conceptually connected spaces, with one area dedicated to womenswear and another to menswear. Each store was carefully designed to reflect the brand's refined identity while offering customers a unique retail environment rooted in material expression and spatial storytelling. The dual approach allows for gender-specific design elements while maintaining overall brand coherence.
The womenswear section features a serene and intimate atmosphere characterized by neutral-toned textured walls that create a soft visual backdrop throughout the space. A warm ceiling constructed from woven rattan and wood envelops the area, adding a domestic and tactile quality that enhances the shopping experience. The design incorporates a modular bookshelf system running along one side of the store, which displays both fashion items and curated artworks in collaboration with L21 Gallery, establishing a thoughtful dialogue between fashion and contemporary art.
The clothing display system in the women's area emphasizes lightness and airiness through lightweight structures suspended from a system of rods and local stone counterweights. This suspension system reinforces key design themes throughout the space while providing functional storage solutions. Even the structural columns have been reimagined with sculptural interventions that successfully balance aesthetic appeal with practical functionality.
In stark contrast, ZIMMER Studio designed the menswear store with a bolder and more tactile identity that appeals to a different sensibility. Brick serves as the protagonist material in this space, particularly featured in a large accent wall positioned opposite a strategically placed mirror. This mirror placement visually expands the store's perceived size while intensifying the interplay between texture and light throughout the environment.
The material selection process for the menswear section focused on raw and authentic textures that reinforce the space's sense of solidity and character. A coffered ceiling functions as a diffused lighting source, providing even illumination across the entire room. Wood appears in two contrasting finishes: smooth planes that highlight the architectural lines, and hand-carved wooden elements that introduce artisanal details and emphasize craftsmanship.
Both retail environments achieve unity through the inclusion of carefully selected iconic furniture pieces, including the Spanish Chair by Børge Mogensen. These classic design elements reinforce the project's successful balance between heritage design principles and contemporary retail innovation. The furniture selection demonstrates the studio's commitment to creating spaces that honor design history while serving modern commercial needs.
The entire ES_MORE concept is grounded in a meticulous material selection process and demonstrates remarkable sensitivity to spatial rhythm and flow. Every element within both stores, whether custom-designed or carefully curated, plays a specific role in shaping an elevated and emotionally resonant shopping experience that goes beyond traditional retail environments. This thoughtful approach to design creates spaces that function not just as stores, but as immersive brand experiences that engage customers on multiple sensory levels.
