Cravity, the dynamic K-pop boy band, is gearing up to release their latest EP, "Sun Seeker," with a mission to resonate with young audiences through their heartfelt messages.
Set to drop today at 6 p.m., "Sun Seeker" marks the group's sixth EP, following their previous release, "Master : Piece," which graced the music scene in March.
In this new six-track EP, Cravity aims to offer solace to young hearts with tracks like "Cheese" and ignite their ambitions with the energetic anthem, "Ready or Not." These two lead tracks are designed to connect with the experiences and aspirations of today's youth.
"We made our debut right at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, so we feel our journey has been closely tied to the growth of young people," shared Wonjin during an interview at Starship Entertainment's headquarters in Seoul. The interview marked the band's first face-to-face interaction with reporters due to pandemic restrictions.
Cravity, comprising members Serim, Woobin, Hyeongjun, Allen, Wonjin, Taeyoung, Jungmo, Minhee, and Seongmin, considers themselves to be a reflection of youth. "It's as if we ourselves are the youth, which is why I think it's easier for us to approach our music and relate to it," added Wonjin.
"Cheese" and "Ready or Not" both boast danceable beats, but the former offers a casual and laid-back vibe, while the latter encapsulates Cravity's signature upbeat energy. The band's previous hits, such as "Party Rock" (2022), "Ready Set Go," and "Groovy," have already endeared them to fans.
One unique challenge the members faced while creating "Sun Seeker" was the need to work on the album during their first-ever world tour, "Masterpiece," which kicked off in May. The tour has seen them perform in Japan, the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, concluding with a performance in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 28th.
Serim expressed gratitude for their devoted fan club, Luvity, whose unwavering support fueled their journey. "I took part in writing the lyrics for the songs, and it was a different kind of experience doing it overseas," noted Serim, describing how the travel provided unique inspiration.
"Ready or Not," and the entire "Sun Seeker" album, convey a simple yet powerful message: pursue your dreams, regardless of whether you feel prepared or not. The sun symbolizes aspirations, goals, and challenges, signifying that they should be sought after despite the hardships that may follow.
"We always sing about youth," stated Allen, "and when you think of youth, you think of pain, dreams, and hope. We're sending a message to cheer on young people in 'Ready or Not,' encouraging them not to fear and to take the leap. It's an ode to our youth and to Luvity."
Cravity's first tour has provided valuable opportunities to enhance their performance skills, as they held their inaugural in-person concert in April 2022, two years after their debut.
The band members deeply appreciate their fans' support, both in Korea and overseas. "We've always thought that we wanted to hold a tour, and it felt so great to be able to experience everything and see them in person," shared Serim. "I hope we get to see them more often."
Wonjin expressed the profound impact of fan interactions: "I felt the exact same thing when I saw the fans for the first time at a TV music show when social distancing guidelines were loosened. They gave me this indescribable sense of fulfillment, the answer to all the choices I've made."
Cravity has been steadily gaining momentum, achieving their highest-ever album sales with 192,000 copies sold within the first week of their last release. They acknowledge the competitive landscape among the so-called fourth-generation K-pop idols and strive to stand out through various efforts, including appearances on entertainment shows, creating fresh content, and active engagement with fans online.
To introduce Cravity to those who are not yet familiar with the group, member Seongmin chose the word "dream." "The message we want to convey with this album is to pursue your dreams," he emphasized. "We will be your supporters, so please take the leap. I hope people find the courage they need with us and try anything, whether they're 'Ready or Not,' just like our song."
