MILLION MARKET
MC Mong's attorney has issued a statement refuting claims that the producer intended to lure members of boy band EXO away from their agency, SM Entertainment. According to the attorney, MC Mong expressed admiration and respect for the EXO members, rather than seeking to snatch them away for his own endeavors.
The controversy arose following a media report on Tuesday, stating that MC Mong openly expressed his desire to "take Kai and Baekhyun" and help them "become No. 1" during a conversation with acquaintances in January 2022. The report alleged the existence of a recording containing MC Mong's remarks.
In response, MC Mong's attorney, representing the 43-year-old producer, whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, clarified the situation. The attorney stated that the mentioned voice file had been deceitfully edited, reducing a two-hour conversation to a mere one-minute segment focused solely on mentions of EXO's Kai and Baekhyun. The attorney emphasized that the discussion had no connection to the conflict between SM Entertainment and the EXO subunit EXO-CBX, clarifying that it was a candid exchange among close acquaintances.
"It is crucial to note that the conversation was not related to 'CBX' or the dispute with SM Entertainment. The two-hour discussion contained unfiltered exchanges shared between individuals who share a close bond," the attorney explained in a press release. "MC Mong's comments were made in an exaggerated manner, expressing friendly admiration among artists."
Furthermore, the attorney revealed that the person responsible for distributing the recorded file had been making threats against MC Mong and individuals associated with him. As a result, MC Mong's legal team intends to take robust action against these unlawful behaviors, aiming to address the increasingly aggressive nature of the threats.
The incident comes in the wake of a recent legal dispute between SM Entertainment and EXO members Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin. Initially, SM Entertainment accused MC Mong of attempting to entice the three members to leave the agency. However, the agency later retracted its allegations, offering an apology and reaching a settlement with the EXO members.
As the situation continues to unfold, MC Mong's attorney seeks to set the record straight, highlighting the producer's intentions as expressions of admiration rather than any ill-intentioned motives. The legal team's commitment to combatting illegal behavior underscores their determination to protect their client's reputation amidst ongoing threats.
The controversy surrounding MC Mong serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by artists in the competitive entertainment industry and the importance of accurate representation in the media.
