Kim Earns Tenure Following Successful Audition and Concertmaster Role

South Korean violinist Kim Jae-won has been appointed as a "supersoliste" (super soloist), also known as principal concertmaster with tenure, at Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, as announced by the Kumho Cultural Art Foundation on Wednesday.

Kim secured the position of concertmaster at the Toulouse Capitole National Orchestra after a successful audition in 2022. She officially assumed the role in 2023, and in March 2024, she was granted tenure by the foundation.

Expressing her gratitude, Kim remarked, "Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse is an orchestra with explosive energy and a unique sound. Thanks to the trust the members have shown during the training period, I have enjoyed my time immensely. I will continue to strive to become a better leader through past experiences," as quoted by the Kumho Cultural Art Foundation.

Born in 1994, Kim made her debut through the Kumho Prodigy Concert Series in 2008. She pursued her studies at the National University of the Arts in Korea under the guidance of the late Kim Nam-yun and later obtained a master’s degree at the Paris Conservatoire under Svetlin Roussev.

Throughout her career, Kim has garnered several accolades, including the second prize at the International Violin Competition in Sofia in 2017.

Additionally, Kim serves as the deputy artistic director of the Busan International Classic Music Festival. She is scheduled to perform with the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra on April 27 as part of the Seoul Arts Center's Korea Orchestra Festival 2024.
