Renowned Soloists Gear Up for Comebacks After Extended Hiatuses

IU, the accomplished singer-songwriter, is poised to release her first album in two years. After focusing on her acting career and a special mini album titled "Pieces" in December 2021, IU confirmed her return to the music scene during an appearance on Suga's YouTube talk show, "Suchwita," on December 26 of the previous year. She disclosed plans for her first overseas concert tour in four years, with filming for the new album's music video already completed alongside V of BTS. IU, who debuted 16 years ago, made history as the first K-pop female solo artist to hold a standalone concert at Seoul's Olympic Stadium. Concurrently, she is engaged in filming for the Netflix series "You Have Done Well."

G-Dragon, recently cleared of allegations involving illegal drug use, announced his return to the music industry with the establishment of his new agency, Galaxy Corp. During a press conference held on December 21, 2023, G-Dragon outlined his plans, including the creation of an anti-drug foundation, JusPeace Foundation. Expressing a commitment to fulfilling both artistic and social responsibilities, G-Dragon's last album release was his second mini album, "Kwon Ji Yong," in 2017. Notably, all his Big Bang bandmates had left YG Entertainment by the end of the previous year.

Cho Yong-pil, widely recognized as the "Gawang" or king of pop music in Korea, is gearing up for the release of his 20th full-length album in 2024. With a career spanning 56 years since his debut, Cho Yong-pil had initially planned to release the milestone album in 2023 to commemorate his 55th anniversary. Delays ensued as he diligently worked to craft the perfect album. Preceding the full-length release, Cho unveiled two preview albums, "Road to 20 – Prelude 1" and "Road to 20 – Prelude 2," in November 2022 and April 2023, respectively. Additionally, he held large-scale concerts at Seoul Olympic Stadium and the KSPO Dome in the preceding year.
