A comprehensive art exhibition is being held in Neuenrade, Germany, to commemorate the life and work of artist Ulrike Herfeld, who would have celebrated her 80th birthday on August 28. The exhibition, titled "Joy with Color and Brush," is being organized by Kunstfenster and showcases a collection of paintings by the late artist who made Neuenrade her home from 1971 onwards.
The exhibition is taking place at the Old Pharmacy (Alte Apotheke) located at Erste Straße 16, featuring a selection of Herfeld's most significant works. The artist, who held degrees in both art and geography, taught at the gymnasium in Menden for many years before relocating to Berlin after the turn of the millennium. She passed away in the German capital in 2019, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy.
Herfeld's distinctive painting style was characterized by her preference for wide, open spaces, which she presented to viewers through her own generous perspective, according to the exhibition announcement. The organizers note that "in each of her paintings, the joy of working with color, brush, and canvas is clearly perceptible," highlighting the artist's passionate approach to her craft.
The opening reception (vernissage) will be held on Saturday, August 9, beginning at 11 AM. Additional viewing opportunities will be available on Sunday, August 17, from 3 PM to 5 PM, as well as on Saturdays, August 23 and August 30, from 11 AM to 1 PM. On August 17, the City Museum located across from the Old Pharmacy will also be open simultaneously, where visitors can learn more about the artist's life and contributions to the local cultural scene.
In addition to displaying Herfeld's artwork, the exhibition will offer visitors the opportunity to purchase some of the artist's original paintings at very reasonable prices, according to the event organizers. This aspect of the exhibition provides art enthusiasts and collectors with a rare chance to acquire authentic works by the celebrated artist. The exhibition serves not only as a tribute to Herfeld's artistic achievements but also as a way for the community to celebrate and preserve her cultural contributions to the region.
