A groundbreaking digital art exhibition titled "Bioharmonics" will open on August 18 at The Gallery, located in Sams Hall of Fine Arts on the Kansas Wesleyan University campus. The innovative display showcases the work of Andrew Baker, an assistant professor of Graphic Design who specializes in merging traditional photography with cutting-edge digital technology.
Baker's artistic journey began early in his life through his training as a violinist, which sparked his passion for the arts. He continues to maintain his musical connections as an active participant in the Kansas Wesleyan University String Orchestra. This unique combination of musical and visual arts expertise forms the foundation of his creative approach.
The exhibition explores Baker's research into how visual design metaphors can effectively teach musical concepts to audiences. "Bioharmonics" features sophisticated graphic visualizations of fundamental musical elements, including pitch, dynamics, tempo, rhythm, texture, form, timbre, and harmony. Baker employs sign theory as a conceptual framework throughout the exhibit, creating a bridge between auditory and visual experiences.
Baker brings impressive academic credentials to his work, having earned his Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the prestigious Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Computer Graphics, Photography, and Ceramics/Sculpture from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.
The professor has gained significant recognition in the art world over the past year, with his work being featured in prominent galleries across multiple continents. His pieces have been displayed at The Holy Art Gallery in Paris, France; Manifest in Cincinnati; Camelback Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona; Part Crowd Art Gallery in Toronto; and Black Box Art Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
The "Bioharmonics" exhibition will run from August 18 through September 18, providing visitors with a full month to experience Baker's innovative fusion of music and visual art. A special reception honoring Baker will take place from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on September 12, offering attendees the opportunity to meet the artist and discuss his work. The Gallery is free and open to the public, making this unique artistic experience accessible to all community members and visitors to the Kansas Wesleyan campus.
