BTS member Jimin, currently serving in the military, has made headlines once again—not for his music, but for his philanthropy. The city of Busan announced on December 2, 2023, that Jimin donated 30 million KRW (approximately $22,500) on November 29 to improve the living conditions of elderly residents in need.
The donation will be allocated through the Busan Metropolitan City Senior Citizen Center to renovate and enhance housing for vulnerable elderly individuals, ensuring they have safe and comfortable living environments. The initiative aligns with Busan’s "Habitat Challenge," a campaign focused on addressing housing insecurity for marginalized communities.
On November 29, Busan City Hall hosted a ceremony to commemorate the donation. Since Jimin is currently fulfilling his military duties, his father attended the event on his behalf to deliver the contribution. With this act of generosity, Jimin became the third donor to join the Habitat Challenge and the first individual contributor. Previous donations were made by KB Kookmin Bank and Dongil Construction, which pledged 90 million KRW and 200 million KRW, respectively.
Jimin’s commitment to giving back has been a consistent theme throughout his career. Even while serving in the military, he continues to make an impact, demonstrating his dedication to social responsibility. This is not the first time Jimin has supported charitable causes, as his history of donations spans education, healthcare, and disaster relief.
The Habitat Challenge highlights the collective effort to combat housing insecurity, and Jimin’s contribution underscores the role public figures can play in fostering positive change. By stepping up as a donor during his military service, Jimin inspires others to act, leveraging his influence for meaningful societal impact.
Currently serving in the Army’s 5th Infantry Division, Jimin is expected to complete his military service on June 11, 2025. Despite the demands of his military duties, his continued involvement in philanthropic efforts speaks volumes about his character and priorities.
As a member of BTS, Jimin has already left an indelible mark on global pop culture, but his commitment to helping those in need shows his influence extends far beyond music. His latest act of kindness further solidifies his reputation as not only a talented artist but also a compassionate and socially conscious individual.
Jimin’s donation comes as a timely reminder of the difference one person can make. It reflects a core value of BTS’s philosophy: using one’s platform to uplift others. With initiatives like these, Jimin sets an example for fans and peers alike, proving that compassion knows no boundaries—even during a period of military service.
