Artist Young-hun Kim holds a solo exhibition, 'Frequency' at Hakgojae Gallery in Seoul.
Kim is a Korean contemporary artist who captures nostalgia and anxiety about the future through video installation and painting work. Through his works, he simultaneously captures the nostalgia of childhood and affirmation and criticism of the modern era covered with cutting-edge technology.
He creates his work by taking inspiration from the colors in the brainwave structure. He also uses computer graphics to choose electronic colors when he paints analog paintings. The process makes his work have unfamiliar images like artificial computer graphics.

During his study abroad career, where he served as a video reporter in his youth, he faced the reality of mass media such as biased broadcasting and distorted one-sided reporting. Since then, he has missed his childhood represented by cartoon characters, the generation where analog and digital culture coexisted.
The artist's work contains the anxiety that humanity faces in the advancing world, such as life-long illness, separation from loved ones, the disappearance of memories, and the development of extreme science. Kim makes works that constantly criticize, pointing out that there are limitations in his experience in the media world in advanced technology.

The exhibition is Kim's first solo exhibition in seven years in Korea, and 35 new works produced throughout 2022 and this year will be unveiled. The audience will be able to consider the modern civilization that develops through the works, the discussions that arise, and nostalgia.
The exhibition will be held until Jan. 20 at the Hakgojae Gallery in Jongro-gu Seoul.
