Gallery Joeun is set to host the highly anticipated dual exhibition "Impromptu Fantasies" by Kim SangIn (b. 1979) and Yoon Sang Yoon (b. 1978) from January 16 to February 15, 2025. This exhibition promises to transport visitors into multidimensional realms that blur the lines between reality and imagination. The artists, each known for their innovative approaches, draw inspiration from contrasting sources—improvisational jazz and the subconscious—to create works that are as thought-provoking as they are visually captivating.
Yoon Sang Yoon employs a distinctive technique, painting simultaneously with both hands to explore themes of duality and contrast. His works reflect the coexistence of harmony and opposition, traversing the boundaries between the real and the surreal, as well as the subjective and objective. A graduate of Chu-Gye University of Fine Arts in 2004, Yoon later completed his postgraduate studies at Chelsea College of Art & Design in London. His career includes a series of acclaimed exhibitions, such as those at Atelier Aki and Entertain in 2023, and his contributions to major art events like the Yeosu International Art Festival (여수국제미술제) and the Chongkundang Selected Artists’ Exhibition (회화와 삶이 춤추는 시간) in 2024. Yoon’s accolades include the prestigious Chongkundang for the Arts award in 2012 and the Hoban Cultural Foundation Grand Prize in 2019. This exhibition will feature 12 of his newest works, offering a vivid depiction of the interplay between reality and fantasy.

Kim Sang In, often referred to as a 21st-century Picasso, channels the spontaneity of jazz and the emotional freedom of daily life into his art. His style is deeply influenced by Cubism, reconstructing objects into geometric forms to create images that feel both flat and three-dimensional. Kim’s journey as an artist began after graduating from Kyung Hee University’s College of Art, with a career initially rooted in magazine illustration for publications like Esquire and GQ. He transitioned into fine art with his first solo exhibition, "Keep 391 Weird," in 2018 at Onground, followed by notable showcases at Music Space Camerata in 2022 and Middleman Gallery in 2023. His work transcends traditional boundaries, merging the visual dynamics of painting with the rhythmic improvisation of music. In this exhibition, Kim will present 13 new works that promise to engage viewers with their bold and unique aesthetic.
"Impromptu Fantasies" is more than just an exhibition—it is an invitation to explore worlds shaped by unplanned visual language and innovative artistic techniques. Both Kim SangIn and Yoon Sang Yoon challenge the conventions of contemporary art, presenting works that encourage introspection and ignite the imagination. By combining elements of jazz-like spontaneity with a deep dive into the subconscious, this exhibition captures the essence of artistic improvisation and boundary-defying creativity. It is a must-see for anyone eager to experience the transformative power of art in its most evocative form.
