A solo exhibition by Korean photographer Min Byung Hun will run at Particle and House of Photography from Sept. 18 to Dec. 20.
Titled “BETWEEN FORMS,” the exhibition is the first to be held simultaneously across the two cultural spaces operated by Fujifilm Korea. Particle will present “BETWEEN FORMS: LANDSCAPE,” while House of Photography will host “BETWEEN FORMS: FIGURE.”
Min has consistently worked with straight photography, capturing subjects without staging or extensive alteration. Rather than defining forms through strong contrasts, he uses subtle tonal changes between black and white to reveal lines, surfaces, textures and depth.
The visual character of his photographs is developed through prints he produces in the darkroom. For Min, printing is not simply a method of reproducing an image but a process of adjusting its density, texture and range of grey tones.
The landscape section includes photographs of fog, water, trees and forests. Alongside earlier works, the exhibition introduces three new photographs taken in southern France and two new works from Min’s “Muul” series.
The figure section focuses on faces and bodies rendered through restrained tonal gradations. Outlines appear and recede within the grey surface, leaving the expressions and postures of the subjects open to interpretation.
Fujifilm Korea will donate 1,000 won for each visitor who makes a reservation and attends the exhibition at Particle. The funds will be distributed through the Green Umbrella ChildFund Korea to support children in the country.
