South Korean actress Jeon Jong-seo has been officially cast in the highly anticipated remake of "Highlander," directed by Chad Stahelski, who is best known for directing the blockbuster "John Wick" film series. Her talent agency, Andmarq, confirmed on Friday that the rising international star has joined the impressive ensemble cast for this major Hollywood production.
The new "Highlander" is an action-fantasy film that centers around a Scottish warrior who possesses the extraordinary power of immortality and must confront and hunt down other immortal fighters throughout history. This project serves as a remake of the beloved 1986 cult classic film of the same name. The production is reportedly backed by a substantial budget of approximately $75 million, signaling the studio's confidence in the project's commercial potential.
Jeon Jong-seo will be joining an exceptional cast of established Hollywood stars, including Henry Cavill, Mark Ruffalo, Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, and Jeremy Irons. With Stahelski at the helm as director, the combination of his proven track record with action films and this star-studded lineup has generated significant anticipation among both industry insiders and moviegoers. In the film, Jeon is set to portray a member of a mysterious secret organization known as the Watchers.
This casting represents Jeon Jong-seo's second major Hollywood venture, following her previous role in the 2023 supernatural thriller "Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon." Her international career began to flourish after her breakthrough performance in acclaimed director Lee Chang-dong's 2016 psychological thriller "Burning," which premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and garnered worldwide critical acclaim.
More recently, the versatile actress has continued to build her reputation with her starring role alongside fellow Korean actress Han So-hee in "Project Y," which was showcased at the renowned Toronto International Film Festival. This continued exposure at major international film festivals has solidified her status as one of Korea's most promising talents on the global stage.
Production for "Highlander" is scheduled to commence in early 2026, giving the cast and crew ample time for pre-production preparations. The film's development marks another significant step in the growing presence of Korean actors in major Hollywood productions, reflecting the increasing global recognition of Korean entertainment talent.
