Jamie Durie, one of Australia's most famous designers and television personalities who transformed backyard makeovers into a nationwide phenomenon, has listed his groundbreaking biophilic home for $21.5 million. The Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medalist spent five years developing this sustainable luxury residence that represents the pinnacle of his three-decade career in design.
Located at Stokes Point just outside Sydney, Belah House stands as a five-story waterfront masterpiece that pushes the boundaries of eco-conscious living. Built on a dramatic 37-degree slope and surrounded by natural forest, the home was designed through a collaboration between Silvester Fuller Architects and Jamie Durie Design, with construction completed in 2025. The property features cutting-edge sustainability technology including solar panels, geothermal heating systems, hydronic floors, and extensive water storage capabilities that allow it to operate completely off-grid.
The architectural marvel flows organically down the steep hillside toward the scenic Pittwater waterway, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding mature trees and natural vegetation. Multiple terraces and hanging gardens create a harmonious connection between the built environment and nature, while vertical gardens climb the curved facade and spill into the double-height living room. The design showcases Durie's biophilic philosophy, which emphasizes the human connection to nature through architectural elements.
Luxury amenities throughout the residence include a comprehensive wellness retreat featuring a fully equipped gym, sauna, steam room, and ice bath facility. The gourmet chef's kitchen comes complete with a professional barista bar and butler's pantry, while additional entertainment spaces include a temperature-controlled wine cellar and private cinema. A spectacular 1,700-square-foot rooftop lawn provides outdoor recreation space, complemented by an infinity pool and private jetty that offer stunning water views.
Every aspect of the home reflects Durie's commitment to environmental responsibility, from recycled ocean-plastic carpets to low-carbon concrete construction materials. "It's the toughest project I've ever taken on," Durie explained. "However, it's the culmination of everything I've learned in 30 years in the design industry. It's a legacy project." He added that on sunny days, the house can operate completely independently from the electrical grid, making it ideal for buyers interested in combining luxury with sustainability.
The property is currently listed for 33 million Australian dollars, approximately $21.5 million USD, reflecting its unique position in the luxury real estate market. James Baker, a real estate agent at McGrath, Knight Frank's Australian partners, emphasized the rarity of such properties. "There really are very few properties of this scale that are ever going to come to market," Baker noted. "It is a massive task to take on, as Jamie would know, to go through council, build the property, and do all the things you need to do to finish a home like this."
Baker highlighted the appeal to ultra-high-net-worth individuals seeking turnkey luxury with environmental consciousness. "There are very few properties in this area that are actually suitable for multi-millionaires or billionaires—people who just want the finished product, ready to go, that also have some conscience surrounding the environment as well," he explained. "The architecture and construction are incredible, but it also feels like a real home with charm and character. And Jamie's touch in terms of the landscaping is next level."
