MBC's Romantic Comedy Achieves Record Viewership Ratings, Elevating Lee Jong-won's Profile in the Entertainment Industry

Actor Lee Jong-won, recognized for his role in the MBC romantic comedy "Knight Flower," celebrated the show's success with reporters at a cafe in Gangnam District, southern Seoul, on February 15. The 12-part sageuk achieved nationwide average viewership ratings of 18 percent, peaking at 22 percent, marking MBC's highest rating in its time slot, surpassing the 2021 drama "The Red Sleeve."

"Knight Flower" is set in the Joseon Dynasty and revolves around a forbidden love between Yeo-hwa, played by Lee Ha-nee, and government officer Soo-ho, portrayed by Lee Jong-won. The drama's unique romantic tension, characterized by minimal physical contact, contributed to its popularity.

Lee Jong-won, who debuted as a model in 2018 before entering acting, is known for his role in the 2022 drama series "The Golden Spoon," where he received the Best New Actor award at the MBC Drama Awards. "Knight Flower" marked his first experience in a lead role, providing a valuable learning opportunity, particularly in sageuk genre.
