The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild is currently presenting "Sharing the Space," a remarkable photography exhibition featuring works by the Women Photographers Collective of the Mid-Hudson Valley. Curated by Anne Arden McDonald, this special showcase is being held at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts and will run through November 30, 2025.
The exhibition brings together an impressive roster of sixteen contemporary women artists, including Gail Albert, Joan Barker, Ana Bergen, Nancy Donskoj, Jill Enfield, Mary Ann Glass, Lori Grinker, Maria Fernanda Hubeaut, Kay Kenny, Dorothea Marcus, Dana Matthews, Meryl Meisler, Susan Phillips, Carla Shapiro, Kelly Sinclair, and Ruth Wetzel. Their contemporary photographic works are displayed alongside carefully selected artworks from the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild's permanent collection, creating a unique intergenerational dialogue.
The heart of the exhibition lies in its innovative concept of pairing historic landscape paintings from the Guild's permanent collection with fifty diverse landscape photographs created by the contemporary women artists. All of these works share a common thread: they capture the beauty and essence of the Hudson Valley region. This thoughtful juxtaposition creates a compelling conversation across different time periods and artistic mediums.
Curator Anne Arden McDonald provides insight into the exhibition's deeper meaning, noting that "Throughout time, people have sought solace in nature in search of beauty and quiet, although each generation expresses this desire differently." This observation highlights how the universal human connection to nature transcends generations while manifesting through evolving artistic expressions and techniques.
Visitors can experience "Sharing the Space: Women Photographers Collective of the Mid-Hudson Valley" at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts, located at 36 Tinker Street in Woodstock, New York. The exhibition will remain open until November 30, 2025, providing ample opportunity for art enthusiasts to explore this unique celebration of women's perspectives on the Hudson Valley landscape. Additional information about the exhibition can be found on the Woodstock Guild's website and the Women Photographers Collective's official site.
