A new art exhibition called "Loose Change" opened last night at C-Squat, featuring the creative works of several young artists who grew up in the local neighborhood. The weekend-long showcase celebrates the grassroots artistic community and highlights work by emerging artists who remain deeply connected to their neighborhood roots.
According to the exhibition invitation, the show is specifically designed "for the kids who make flyers for punk shows. For the kids who stay up until dawn writing graffiti. For the kids who make zines ... for people who don't make substantial profit from their work." This mission statement reflects the exhibition's focus on authentic, community-based artistic expression rather than commercial success.
The exhibition was documented by photographer Stacie Joy, who captured images of both the featured artists and attendees during the opening night. The event attracted visitors interested in supporting local creative talent and experiencing the vibrant underground art scene that continues to thrive in the neighborhood.
Visitors can view the "Loose Change" exhibition today from 1:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and tomorrow from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Those interested in attending should enter through the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space (MoRUS), located at 155 Avenue C between Ninth Street and 10th Street. The exhibition provides an opportunity for the community to engage with and support young artists who are keeping alternative art forms alive in an increasingly commercialized creative landscape.
