In the wake of recent heavy rainfall that claimed the lives of at least 40 people and wreaked havoc nationwide, several prominent celebrities have stepped forward with significant donations to support the victims and relief efforts. Unusual torrential rains triggered floods, resulting in tragic loss of life, extensive property damage, and agricultural devastation, leading to a widespread call for aid. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters reported 40 fatalities, nine individuals still missing, and approximately 10,608 people evacuated from their homes as of Monday, 11 a.m.

Renowned trot singer Lim Young-woong and his management agency, Mulgogi Music, made a substantial donation of 200 million won ($157,923) to the Community Chest of Korea, specifically allocated for flood relief efforts. Lim Young-woong, who gained fame through TV Chosun's 2020 audition program "Mr. Trot," has consistently demonstrated philanthropic efforts, including charitable donations through his fan club in response to various disasters.

Acclaimed actress Kim Hye-soo also joined the relief efforts by donating 100 million won to aid those affected by the flooding. She has previously lent her support to disaster situations, including the 2019 Gangwon Province forest fire, 2020 COVID-19 relief, the 2022 wildfire on the east coast, and the 2022 flooding.

Real-life couple and actors Kim Woo-bin and Shin Min-a, who co-starred in tvN's 2022 series "Our Blues," each contributed 100 million won to the Korea Disaster Relief Association. Expressing her sympathies, Shin Min-a stated through her agency AM Entertainment, "My heart goes out to those affected by the floods."

Well-known comedian Yoo Jae-suk, rapper PSY, and trot singer Lee Chan-won also demonstrated their support by individually offering 100 million won to the same charity. These donations will contribute to both short-term and long-term relief and recovery efforts.

PSY, the singer-producer behind the 2012 viral sensation "Gangnam Style," has faced criticism for proceeding with a concert in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, on Monday evening, despite the flash floods causing widespread damage across Korea. However, he expressed his deep regret to those impacted by the flooding through the Korea Disaster Relief Association, emphasizing his hope for the affected communities to return to their homes and resume normalcy as soon as possible.

Actress Han Hyo-joo and actor Yim Si-wan also extended their support, with Han donating 50 million won and Yim contributing 30 million won. Han expressed her heartfelt concern, stating, "I cannot imagine the sadness and despair experienced by the flood victims. I was deeply saddened by the news, and I hope normalcy will be restored soon."

Comedian Park Na-rae and TV personality Lee Hae-young contributed 10 million won each to the flood relief fund, showcasing solidarity and empathy for those affected.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath of the devastating floods, the outpouring of support from these influential figures brings hope to the affected communities. The total extent of the damage currently stands at over 318 private assets and 631 public facilities, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive recovery efforts.
