OD Company, a local musical producer, is bringing F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic 1925 novel "The Great Gatsby" to the stage as a musical. Shin Chun-soo, the chief producer of OD Company, recently announced that the show is set to make its world premiere at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey this October. The musical is written by Kait Kerrigan and directed by Marc Bruni, with a score by Jason Howland that mixes '20s jazz with modern-day pop.
Shin's ultimate goal is to bring the production to Broadway by next year, stating, "'The Great Gatsby' is such an iconic American book, so I imagine that there will be lots of attention drawn to the show once it is staged. I also think it is a story worth telling as a musical because the temptation of money and power is still very relevant."

In addition to "The Great Gatsby," OD Company is also producing another musical titled "Il Tenore." This production, set in 1930s Korea, follows characters with big dreams and goals, just like "The Great Gatsby." The musical's music and book were written by creative duo Hue Park and Will Aronson, who are best known for their work on the local-hit musical "Maybe Happy Ending" (2016). The score incorporates operatic styles of music.
OD Company, founded in 2001, has produced dozens of local musicals, including original shows such as "Assassin" (2009) and "Titanic" (2007), as well as licensed productions like "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" (1979), "Dracula, the Musical" (2001), and "Jekyll & Hyde" (1990).
