The Getty Center is offering complimentary drawing sessions and live demonstrations to visitors in conjunction with its upcoming fall exhibition, "Learning to Draw," which explores the artistic training methods of European masters from the 16th through 19th centuries. The interactive exhibit opens to the public on October 21, 2025, and will run through January 25, 2026.

According to a press release from the museum, the exhibition traces how European artists developed their skills by training both their eyes and hands through the discipline of drawing. The gallery features an innovative approach to visitor engagement, including a dedicated sketching table equipped with drawing materials where guests are encouraged to create their own artwork while exploring the exhibit.

Visitors who participate in the drawing activity will have the unique opportunity to display their sketches in the gallery entrance, creating a collaborative and ever-changing display of contemporary work alongside historical pieces. This interactive element allows museum-goers to connect directly with the artistic techniques and methods featured in the exhibition.

The Getty Center has scheduled four special drawing sessions and live demonstrations, each taking place on a Sunday over the next four months. These events are designed to accommodate artists of all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. "Whether you're a seasoned artist or picking up the pencil for the first time, these events will let you see the techniques in action and try them yourself," the press release states.

The museum is offering four distinct class options for participants: "Learning to Draw: Then and Now," "Five Drawings, Five Minutes Each," "Artist-at-Work: Figure Drawing," and "Getty Drawing Days." All sessions operate on a first-come, first-served basis, though some classes will also be available for virtual participation.

The scheduled dates for the drawing classes and demonstrations are October 26, November 9, and December 7, 2025, with a final session on January 25, 2026, which coincides with the exhibition's closing date. All sessions run as drop-in programs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., allowing visitors flexibility in their participation.

While admission to the Getty Center remains free to the public, visitors should note that parking in the on-site garage costs $25. The museum recently received recognition as one of the best museums in the United States, adding to its reputation as a premier cultural destination in Los Angeles.
