The Mondrian Cannes hotel on the famous Croisette is opening its doors to the public as an art gallery, hosting the exhibition "Le Voyage" (The Journey) in partnership with the République des Arts association through November 23. This marks the first-ever Art Week at the luxury hotel, featuring seven local artists from the French Riviera working across various disciplines including painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, and design.
The transformation builds on the hotel's recent artistic initiatives that began this fall. Since late September, the Mondrian's gardens have been displaying three monumental sculptures by French artist Jean Martin in collaboration with Bartoux galleries. These neoclassical figures—Venus, Isis, and Victoria—are crafted from thousands of individually welded stainless steel screws, creating metallic silhouettes that appear light and almost translucent in the heart of the Croisette. The outdoor sculptures remain visible to the public free of charge for a few more days through December.
"Much more than a hotel, the Mondrian Cannes defines itself as a true living space, open to creation and the local cultural scene," said Jean-Philippe Vanthielt, the hotel's general manager. The Art Week represents an extension of this cultural programming, inviting the public inside the hotel's interior spaces for the first time as an exhibition venue.
The exhibition focuses on the theme of journey, exploring the relationship between material and memory rather than geographical escapism. The seven selected artists—Hortense Garand-Vernaison, Holly Inkster, Alison McCauley, Verena Omnes, Philippe Seguin, Philibert Dubreuil, and Arnaud Pellissier—all work with materials or explore connections to nature through colors, textures, light, and memories. Each day during the exhibition, one of the artists will be present to meet with visitors and discuss their work.
The exhibition emphasizes accessibility and integration into the hotel's daily operations. There are no imposed routes or ticket requirements for visitors. Instead, the artworks are displayed throughout the hotel's public spaces, including the lobby, bar, and restaurant, allowing them to blend seamlessly with the venue's regular functioning. Guests and visitors can experience the art as they move naturally through the space.
For the République des Arts association, the collaboration aims to provide greater visibility for artists from the French Riviera region. The partnership allows local artists to showcase their work in a prestigious venue that attracts both international visitors and locals. The hotel, meanwhile, continues building on the cultural momentum it has established since the beginning of the academic year.
The Art Week "Le Voyage" exhibition runs from November 17 through November 23 at the Mondrian Cannes, located at 45 Boulevard de la Croisette. The event represents the hotel's commitment to becoming a cultural destination that goes beyond traditional hospitality, creating a bridge between luxury accommodation and contemporary art appreciation in one of France's most iconic coastal cities.
